Hi all, I remember reading somewhere about some men from the Jewellery Quarter being branded cowards and occasionally handed white feathers because they didn't volunteer for service during WW1.
I know the Quarter thrived as the need for military buttons, badges and medals increased and many men were needed to meet the demand but I don't think it was classed as a reserved occupation and that probably explains why some men didn't volunteer.
I can't find the article I read anywhere now, so was wondering if you guys could help please?

Welcome to the Forum. A quick search of the British Library Newspaper Archive, Birmingham-based papers, using keywords of Jewellery Quarter men cowards failed to turn up anything.
