My wife’s Aunt worked at the Coventry road branch from leaving school to retirementLove the pics, like a lot of my generation, 1940's, I loved going especially at Christmas, mom worked there, my sisters had Saturday jobs there, it was such a large part of our lives, when they closed, both my sons texted me saying so sad dad !!!
A small correction: all Woolworth branches were called 3d. and 6d. stores until after WW2. It is hard to believe that it relates to such minuscule amounts in today's money.Woolworths Lozells Rd the 3s and 6d store circa 1920ish

Viv, their original marketing in Canada and US was 5 & 10 cents or 5 & dime. The 3 & 6 pence was a similar low price that most people could identify with, the stores were designed to attract those clientele.Why 3pennies and 6pennies? Was 3d minimum and 6d maximum price for any item ? Viv.
