Did he live at Prescott Street? Only asking because a Thomas Oakes Wood is still alive in 1939 on the electoral roll.

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

And a Thomas O Wood is still on electoral roll in 1945 at Prescott Street.

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

hi suzanne..yes thats him...i have him there on the 1911 census...197 prescott st...he his my gt grandfather...so he was still there in 1939 then...so what mom said about him outliving one of his sons is correct...i wonder if you could let me have the details of others living in the house at that time please...

now all i have to do is find out when he died...

thanks so much for your help....

In 1945 at 197 Prescott Street Is Thomas O Wood and Rose H Wood.
In 1939 at the above is Thomas Oakes Wood and Rose Hannah Wood
In 1935 same as above

In 1920 as well as Thomas and Rose there was Albert Ernest and Arthur Henry Wood
In 1925 Thomas, Rose and Arthur
In 1930 Just Thomas and Rose

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

ive found his death

1952 apr-jun birmingham 9c 154 aged 89 which is correct as birth was in 1863

did you realise he had two marriages...one in 1886 and 2nd in 1909

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

Well done Shera. I was just starting on the 1950s.

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

hi suzanne..thank you so much for the e rolls..i shall write them all down now...

i have thomas o woods birth cert..he was born in 1863..making him 84 in 1947..thats a couple of years out...but it does seem that unless any others turn up this is he...mom did say that he lived to a good age....

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

thank you both very much...:):) so he died just a year before i was born...moms dad was thomas,s son...and he died when mom was 9 so i guess thats why she has fond memories of her grandad....

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

hi again..i was just thinking...:rolleyes: thomas was at the same address from at least 1911 till 1945..thats quite a long stint considering how folk tended to move around a lot in those days.....right i am now on the trail for old pics of prescott street...

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

Hi Lyn

Just looked again and in 1912 he is indeed at 197 Prescott St but under ABODE/OTHER INFO it also lists 20 Shadwell Rd. Not too sure what this means other than he had other premises - ?

Suzanne

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

suzanne..the plot thickens....on my dads side i found an ancestor with other abode on the e rolls...turned out to be a pub...:rolleyes: ive never heard of shadwell road...must do some digging...this is very interesting....

thank you...

lyn:):)

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

you were right about the "digging" lyn :)

in 1920 he was living 197 prescott st. but also had allotments at city road (ideal) allotments

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

lol shera...so he grew his own veg then....:):) ive just asked for a kellys look up to see what kind of abode 20 shadwell road was...

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

i think you must have had a premonition  you said "plot" and "digging"

:D:D

i wonder whether the electoral rolls should have said shadwell street as there doesnt seem to be any other records for shadwell road.

Re: death..thomas oakes wood

I've double checked and looked at the actual return and it does says 20 Shadwell Road :)

Re: death..thomas oakes wood
