hi all,
i know this sounds a bit odd, but has anyone got a picture of the area in the prison where the prisoners were buried please.
gt gt grand father's remains were moved there from worcester jail, when renovations made
thanks zena

Hi arena
I cannot say exactly where your great grand fathers remains where they would have been burryed in the grounds of Winston green prison but firstly what gear are you referring to when he was in Worcestershire jail plus the years gone bye when they renovated Worcester jail it meant they close it and converted it to an hospital
Here in the city of Worcestershire over looking the river and the race course which originally was there when the old prison was in use
And the big law courts was just around the corner from the big major courts which as stood there for centuries and is still operational today
Very big just like the Victoria law courts is in Birmingham
But getting back to your request of a question regarding where would his remains would have been hurried
Well Winson green prison used be the old lodge road mental hospital and the aysylam hospital that used to be the prison
Known to some as Winson. Green prison most of lodge road still holds some resemblements. Today with its building and they kept there hospital wing as well
So you probaley know Winston green your self today so may be you know where I mean it goes for miles around the block
All up lodge red and from Winston green prison today it was massive
At thaztgime KT was called Birmingham prison but to a lot of the old folk and residents of the Winston green area today that's. The Winston green prison
But in your grand fathers day it was Birmingham prison
And therefore some where around the grounds of burials for the hung people and remains was or still there within the grounds of the old lodge road
Hospital I believe it was on the back grounds of the hospital which if you walked up the .lodge rd and just before you got to the. Main office block
At some point that's where they was all hurried within the gardens of lodge rd and believe me those grounds are massive to wonder around and down
To the main building where people was kept in such poor conditions they have under grounds cells and grim walls and some zare in wards above grounds
Which some are bolted and still got the dungeon doors of thick steel and heavy bolts today
May I add not only did your brand father remains went there also another fellow imate whom was hung by Mr pie point the hang man
Whom was sent for to hang William yarn old he was hung in Worcester jail be fore the jail closed down and changed into a hospital
But fifty hears or.more now that hospital closed down we have a new one where the yankies the Americans own the land
So that's where your get , get , grand fazthdr would have been hurried along with other historic murders and. Rimes committed to death for or they died of natural causes best wishes astonian,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yes Lynn
This was the rule and practice of the state that people whom was executed by any means meaning by being hung
Was to be buryed within the prison grounds
And in the case of the lodge road mental institute asylum in the early years of the 1800. S early 1900 s the people with no relatives
Was also buried within. The grounds of the aurthoritys
And when these people whom was hung by the prison aurthortys its states on there death certificate
That they died by being hung and the named jail ,I have the one of William yarn old whom was hung at Worcester jail
For the murder of tip toe lil is wife in 1925 I also have the prison cell and of the inside of the jail
Sent to me by an retired reporter on a huge a4 paper and of the case history
In a large brown envelope area years back now and of Albert pie point being sent for by judge held from Bradford
Best wishes Alan,, astonian,,,,,,,

I believe that most of the bodies were removed back in the 70/80. My friend Ken Stowe helped to dig up the bodies. He later became an officer at the prison and worked there till he retired in May. The remains were removed when the prison was redeveloped with new gate and walls.

henry james holmes my grandads brother
and
samuel crowther my gt gt grandfather (nans side)

Hi zeena.
I think you find this will be highly impossible for you to be shown the spot for various reasons and one for security reasons
And no member of the public are allowed to venture out side the perimeters and also for saftety reasons
Plus its a high risked for you in more ways than one a d its a privately run prison
If this hanging was in the 1800 s it would not have been near the gate house and happy guy where as your friend said was the turret 7
I am I trigued to know please inform. Us zeena. You can get an original picture of the old gates off here at the forum
Look forwarded to hearing from you and best of luck if you are going to contact the prison I am sure we are all interested as to how you get on
Best wishes astonian,,,,,,,
