GOOD MORNING BEWDLEY AND JOHN;
MANY . MANY THANKS FOR YOUR VALUABLE TIME IN HELPING ME TO EXPLORE THE MISSING JIG SAW IN MY LIFE REGARDING MY FATHERES BACK GROUND AND TRYING TO FIT THE PEICES of whom he was and his family; i had taced a cousin called brenda; whom lives in telford and i have not met up with her for many years [ in fact we was kids and i mean kids ] but any way her mother is in her ninetys and lives up the barr beacons
and she was my dads sister ,or half sister not quite got the facts yet ; but she questioned her mother as incidley is now incidencely blind
and bren travelles to see and helps her mother out and doing her sorting out for her
she said that her mom said our gran mothere was a jenning before a stevens ; and the address you have given me bewed ;fits the bill
also she said that my father was born in george rd erdinton so thats fits the bill and i know she lived in cromwell street in her early years at some point
so so far you are correct and this is the same person that you have found must be the right connection i beleive when she was in parliment street
she was jenning and the guy whom i think was a mr jenningsin parliment street was a carter maker or some think like that whom hired them out ; ?;
then she became a stevens did mr stevens have another christian name ? .
i am very corned to hear ofmr william stevens gassing himself ;jon i will write off for this death certif; of william stevens and see if it the same guy you have given me ; i beleive there was a lily stevens ; forrence maud edith albert ; josheph and my father ; whom was born in george rd erdinton only ;
and that the others was of jennings name ; can this be confirmed ; jon ; and bewdley ;
i felt a shiver down my back this morning when i got up early and read the possible of it being my grandfather
could it had been she was having an affair with jenning as to why this man if it was my grand father gassed himself ;and thats why my alledge grand father was never mentiond from the days we was growing up right up until today did he ever live on gerrard street hockley ;
once again i sincerely thank you both for your time ; you are both great guys and stars ; best wishes astonian;

Astonian, I used to live next door to the Cromwell Arms,and we used to go there for pennies for the gas meter,I was in there one evening when Mr Stevens came in and said to the gaffer, (a Mr Paul Devere) give me 12 pennies I'm going to gas myself,the gaffer said in that case I'm not going to give them to you,Mr Stevens said I'm only joking,next morning they were carrying him down the entry, he lived on his own, and there was heresay his wife had died.
It may not be anything to do with your relations,but you never know,I can still hear and see that scene as plain as day,I was only 9 or 10.
Regards John.

Hi Astonian

In answer to your questions in post #4.

As far as I can tell William Stevens didn’t have another christian name.

As he died in January 1940 and was living at 179 George Road Erdington I doubt he is the chap who gassed himself in the early 50s in Cromwell Street.

William and Elizabeth married at the end of 1911 so they aren’t on the census together but I have found these births for Stevens with mother’s maiden name of Jennings

Hi bewdley ;
many thanks for your valuable time and giving me the information on my fathers family
and for secondly telling me it was not my grand father whom gassed himself thats a releife ;any way
so i can take it her maiden name was jenning of parliment street and not handley as i may have been misinform by the distant
cousin ; in telford whom i have not seen in over forty years and it was by chance she tracked me and contacted me by letter
and told me where t find my excisting brothers and sisters ;
best wishes astonian ;;;
