William Maybury

Lady Penelope

master brummie
I'm looking for William Maybury b. 1887 in Birmingham. I haven't been able to find any information about him but there are two newspaper cuttings in the Birmingham Gazette/Birmingham Gazette and Express for a man with the same name.

I'd be very grateful if someone who has access to the Newspaper Archives could look for them please.

25 Jan 1911 and 30 Nov 1923.

Also, there is a William Maybury on the memorial in the Bull Ring to civilians who were killed in the Blitz. Is there anywhere that you can look at details of the people recorded there?

Any help would be gratefully received.

this from the BARRA site penn...think you can rule him out as age does not fit

also pen and adding to all the above info.... i dont know what other info you have about william but there is a tree on ancestry for a william maybury b1887 birm with a photo of him..here is a bit of the info

lyn

When William Maybury was born on 5 August 1887 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, his mother, Alice, was 19. He married Florence Balshaw on 7 October 1916 in his hometown. They had five children during their marriage. He died in 1946 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, at the age of 59.

info also says he was in the royal worcestershire reg ww1

Thank you both for the above information.

Lyn, you're definitely right that this couldn't be my William Maybury on the memorial. I get so confused with all the Maybury's having the same name, there's at least one in every generation. I think he possibly died aged 2 but there is a child with the same name living as a boarder in Ladywood.

I looked at the tree you mentioned too but as luck would have it that William's parents are listed as 'unknown'. The one I'm looking for has William Jabez Maybury and Harriett Saville Barrett (not as posh as it sounds!) as parents.

Janice, thank you for finding these which could possibly apply to William so another avenue to explore. Age is a couple of years out so I will look at births a little earlier. Definitely not the London one though so I can discount that. Lyn's William joined the army and there's a lot of information but really nothing that helps.

Again, thanks
Penny

hi pen we are always happy to help but what do you know for certain about william..? and are you just trying to track him from birth?

you have probably got this but there is a baptism in 1899 for william jabez maybury also has his fathers name is william jabaz maybury and the mothers name is harriet..address hospital street fathers occ is coach builder..the william jabez maybury that was born 28th may 1899 died in 1974 so not born in 1887 as stated in your first post..

also the 1901 census puts parents william jabez maybury (coach builder) and wife harriet in guildford living with 5 children including son william aged 2

the 1911 puts harriet in paddington st she is a widow living with 9 children including william aged 12

Thanks Lyn. The William Jabez Maybury is William's brother (and Graham's Gt Uncle) which is what makes me think that William 1887 had died and there is an entry for this death. However, we'd like to find his baptism just to be sure. The William you found on Ancestry fits with everything else but as I said his parents are missing. Very frustrating.

The 1887 birth is reg with no mmn suggesting he was illegitimate. I couldn't find a baptism.
There is a baptism for the one born 1899 parents William Jabez and Harriet. Occupation of Father is coach builder and address is Hospital Street.

Penny - to clarify. Do you think the William born 1887 died aged 2? - I saw the death of a 2 year old William Maybury.
The son of William Jabez and Harriet Barrett was definitely born 1899. Birth registered mmn Barrett and baptism as posted by Lyn earlier.
Did Graham know this uncle?
