You say he was around Heath st in 1871. Well there was a william cox , shopkeeper at 56 Heath st in 1872. In the 1871 census though it is a William & mary blackham (provision dealer) living at 56.
In 1873 it is William Cox shopkeeper & coal dealer at 56 Heath St
1876-78 William Cox coal dealer at 56 Heath St
1879 William Cox coal dealer at 211 Heath St

1880-83 Not listed
1884 William Cox shopkeeper 221 Heath St
(Between 1884 & 1888, the numbering of Heath st changed from consecutive to odd one side even the other)
1888- 90 No William Cox in Heath st, but a William Cox, shopkeeper at 62 Winson green road , which is not far away.
1892 William Cox fried fish dealer 60 Winson green road
1895 - 1900 Not listed
Where I put not listed it means that there are a number of other William coxes, but they are not in heath or winson green st. are not coal dealers or fishmongers. In 1895 for exampole there is a William cox shopkeeper in Bridge st West, but didn’t think there was any real reason to say it was the same one

Bridge st west is Birmingham. It was 322 Bridge st west , which is near the junction with Wellesley st on the north side, and was only for 1895-6. It is complicated. The same time , further down Bridge st west on the other side near the junction with hospital st there is a William Cox, boomaker.

Mike does it only give william's name no others with him? I'd only got to winson green rd and heath street did see he wasn't listed 1881 in heath street but looks like he went to shireland rd smethwick 1881 then came back to heath street 1884 then onto winson green1888.
