hi all, could anyone tell me was there a road called whitehead road in newtown aston, in the 1920, as my mum said her mum kept a horse there..

Yes Whitehead Road used to be a continuation after Gerrard I believe. Long road running north-east from Victoria to Bevington which is very close to Villa Park. You can google it. There may have been fields in early 1900s.

whitehead

Two confusables Whitehead street and Whitehead road
Gerrard street end was Whitehead street
from High street it was Whitehead road
do you have and address, I have the 1921 kelly's which would have made out in 1920

no dont no any address, my mum said my nan was a ragbone women she use to have horse and cart... her name was emily leah holland then married alfie charles griffin, and lived inkerman st aston. and my mum gets confused so it gets bit muddled, so as you do i just listen to bits and bobs... ??? ive learned a lot of this forum so me and my cousin trying to put a family tree together, as papers got burnt in a fire..

Pinky, just replied to another request. Emily Leah Holland is Elsie Smith's (Broughton's) mother. I found out on Sunday and Elsie wasn't sure of the name and if her mother is still alive. But she was ecstatic when I found her full name and date of birth. In church, in the middle of a service. Thanks Shirley

Hi
Here is a photo of Whitehead Rd showing that the shop takes
Red Diamond stamps. I see a Ansels sign on the wall next door over a shop,
i don't know perhaps it is an off licence.

Yes, it was an off licence in early 60s. This is Whitehead Rd looking down to High St. Rifle Crescent would be on the right of this photo. Can't remember what the shop further down was.

I'm not sure Lyn. Houses have changed so much. Someone with local knowledge is the best person to answer.

They're standing here (where the roadworks signs are) outside Prince Albert School. Junction with Albert Road. As there are so many children, perhaps it was school pick up/drop off time. The road sign behind the woman's head on the left has gone - a newer one is fixed to the garden wall..
