Nechells Great Lister Street Henry Street Silks Cafe 1960 .jpg
Lyn this one looks tougher than you think, dont know for sure looks like the corner of Gt Lister St and Henry St not your side of town though as for the name haven,t got a clue.Dek
I think Dek is spot on it's Silk Cafe after they moved to Great Lister St. You should ask Ernie he will tell you all about this cafe. I can't see the bookie's runner anywhere though.
yes phil..dek is correct..it the corner of gt lister and henry st...well done dek...and well done phil it is indeed silks cafe..and heres me taking the trouble to get the name blocked out..lol...right so all we need now is ernie to come and tell us all about this cafe then...
The cafe had gone from my mind. What stuck out for me was the high wall at the back and the old houses up the side they always looked grim i was just waiting for a V.and D. man to come on and put me right thanks Phil. Dek
I tell you what stands out the most in that photo for me, and that is how clean the streets were. There is a marked difference in the street of the so called slum areas of today.
When was the last time you saw anybody sweeping and washing down the pavement in front of a house. Or treating the front step to a coat of Red Cardinal Polish?
Your so right Phil people had pride in their door step and pavement outside their house. these days they would rather live in squaller, dumping rubbish anywhere for somebody else to clear than take it to the tip.Dek
