From circa 1936. Interesting adverts as well, I only remember HP (of course) and Wrigley's.

Yes,it's Pete Waterman's favourite station!
Looks like a GWR 'Hall' class loco approaching from the south with Leamington South signal box on the left of the pic.
Great photo!

Yes Laurie it is a GW Hall Class. Although I'm not a railway buff as you seem to be, I do like these old pics. Why does Pete like it so much?

Hi David.I was watching the tele series 'Pete Waterman's Trains' on More 4 a few weeks ago,and according to Mr.W he lived in Coventry at the time but sometimes went to Leamington, arriving at the Avenue (LMS) station.Pete related that the station was very quiet,so he went to investigate all the noise that was coming from the nearby General (GWR) station.
According to the programme Pete,as a youngster (complete with jam sandwiches) stood on the station wall and saw ex-GWR express trains passing through, and to quote the man himself "I was hooked!" and I think this is where his fascination with the station began.Indeed he has a extensive 0 gauge model railway based on Leamington Spa General;the layout includes a section of the nearby Hatton bank.
