Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
No mistake with this one, I have checked out the location and I know it's the right one.

Why were there so many garages/petrol stations with so few vehicles yet today there are millions of vehicles and garages are shutting as fast as the pubs?

For the same reason - supermarkets. Petrol and alcohol at low prices attract the customer to buy everything else at the same shop. Garages and Pubs can't compete with that.

This one looks like somewhere in the Cheapside - Digbeth - Bordesley St area, but I can't instantly place it. Demolished for road widening perhaps?

I think its probably because that we have filling stations now rather than garages. Oil companies say that the profit on forecourt sales is very low, hence these places have become convenience stores as well. When we had garages and lots of them, the main business was selling/ servicing vehicles and petrol sales used to be an aside.

You are right Alf, i have tried to remember the building behind the garage, it is the Cincinati Machine Tools factory. Len.

You are so close I should really give it you, can you just give me the right junction of Constitution Hill? In fact I am going to say you are the winner all you need to do is give me the right junction.

You obviously spent more time in café's than in garages then. It was the junction of Howard St & Constitution Hill. This is a recent view according to Google.
