Has anyone else noticed the actual present day Maypole has an Australian Rooster at the top? Has done since well before the Maypole pub closed down. Every year I wonder if it will be put the right way up for Mayday but no, always still a Commonwealth job.

No Phil I havn't seen it before but the actule May-pole in the photo gave it away, a good guess and thiking outside the box, Ha Ha!!
