Where is This? #197

Dave M was the first one past the winning post, It is Baskerville house that was built as part of the new Civic Centre on Cambridge St that was never realised and later renamed Baskerville House. Though I would have given the nod to the Hall Of Memory Memorial as well.

Well done all those who took part as it really was a combined effort in the end.

Phil

Well done Dave! I am thrilled to have even got close - I am usually miles away. It will probably be where is this? #578 before I am that close again.....lol

Curses! I knew that was the site of Baskerville House (yes I know it's easy to say that now, but I did when I just enlarged the picture!) Isnt the tall building Cadbury's original factory? That was in the area, on the site of a former brickworks I think. Easy Row is visible far right - no mistaking those frontages!

well done dave...i thought it was near to broad st...i was going to say is it where the old winfield brass co was which was next to baskerville house...

next one please phil....

I only answered pollypops ?
LOL - Dave - I thought you had misread my post by the way you put back on topic at the end of your post - I was asking if it (the mystery location) was where the new Library is - I wasn't asking where is the new Library. lol I would put you some smileys but they don't seem to be be available.

You still mentioned Baskerville House first!

Well done those who got it. I am a little confused about exactly where the view is. As far as I can see the large building referred to by Lloyd is the same side of Broad st as the Baskerville house site, so it can't be Cadburys factory. I used to think that the factory was on the corner of bridge st, but now i understand that the factory was slightly down Bridge St , on the site that was later Bridge St School (probable approx site in red below). The engraving of the old factory does show a tall chimney in the background, and the 1889 1/500 OS map does show what looks like being a round chimney base at the far end of the site (see blue mark below). I have not yet had definite confirmation of this though.
