I haven't seen this on the forum , though it may have been before my time. Any guesses ? The street and preferably a name or number. I have cropped it slightly. Will give the full photo later if necessary.
Mike another photo ofthe Old Lamb House, in this one the couple in the middle window are the Grandparents of J.R.Tolkien the author of Lord of the Rings.
Of course you are right Phil. Below is the uncropped photo. You can see Newberry's, at the corner of Corporation st, on the right in the distance. The picture was apparently taken in 1886 just prior to its demolition to build (if that's the right word) Martineau st. It was no 106 Bull St. I was able to determine this because the caption pointed out that the structure of the building had been damaged in the early 1900s when a Mr Pole, butcher had hung 16 oxen from the front bressumer. To save people looking that up (like i had to) , it is the large oak beam across the shopfront. It looks from the picture that they may have replaced it with an iron beam. George Pole was here 1833-41. In 1829 he was in dale end, and he had disappeared by 1845
I suppose what they replaced it with was much better, but I would have preferred the Old Lamb House to what they replaced the replacement with in the 70's
