Where is This? 160

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
Following on in my recent where is this café theme. Who will be the first to show that like myself he frequented many of these much maligned greasy spoon establishments. Without them many a working man would have had a hungry day.

Phil

This is a pure guess, Summer Lane? I know I have seen that newish building in the background somewhere, but where evades me!

pHIL THIS ONES GOT ME GOING.(LOOKS LIKE ME BARRA THAT GOT NICKED IN 1962)JOKING APART THE BUILDING IN THE BACKGROUND I,VE GOT THREE PLACES IT MIGHT BE aSH & LACY DOWN cHEAPSIDE,nEWTON OILS UP THE GREEN,AND BULMERS on iCKNEILD ST am i barking up the wrong tree? Dek

Dave Riley

Not Summer Lane, but the new building in the Background is well known, depending on what part of Birmingham you come from.

Dek

Out of your three guesses Ash & Lacy would be the closest, but not that close.

Lyn

What can I say but sorry. I reckon you are a couple of hours walk away.

Phil

lol phil...more like 4 hours the speed i go these days..no i give up as it obviously the other side of town...

lyn....

Phil ,could the road down the bottom be the No 8 bus route possibly Sparkhill Ballsall Heath side?I,m thinking Wards Motor Rewinds,Dek

Lyn

You give in too easily.

Dek

You are moving away.

Jean

I thought we had decided it was on the south side.

Phil

Dek

You are getting close but still a way to go, head uphill.

Dave Riley

Dek is much closer.

Phil

Phil good one this there used to be a cafe at the top end of alcester st.would that be Dowding & Millls on Camp Hill in the background or have i gone to far up the hill? Dek

Len

Sorry no its not that way.

Dek

You are going off route again. Before they altered the layout of the roads slightly down Macdonald St was slightly in the 70 where would you have gone to go uphill.

Phil

Phil may have gone to far up the hill that could be Alcester St in the background and St Annes church may be on the left hand side (not in the photo..Dek

Phil this is taxing me brain In My head i,ve got Moseley St, Ravenhurst St and Leopald St(not sure that ones in Highgate though) i no i,m in the right spot just can,t nail it.Dek.

phil..you know i dont give up that easily....is it somewhere near the longbridge factory....

lyn....now dont you laff at me....

Dek

Its one of those three, but I need an approximate location.

Dave

No sorry no swimming lessons today

mossg

Your going uphill in the right direction but on the wrong hill

Jean

Of I told you what the building was I might as well tell you the location.

Lyn

Pity I like women who give in easily. But you are still in the wrong place.

Phil

phil..for that comment i would give you one of me bang on the heads but there are no smilies on this thread....lol....

ok then when you say its a couple of hours walk from summer lane which direction are you talking about....and could you just say if that building in the pic is still there..

lyn

no its no good...it could be anywhere...sorry phil i may as well stick a pin in the street map with this one...i am off down our mom and dads for an hour now so when i come back i hope someone has solved this one...

lyn...

Dek

Of course you are right its Leopold St Highgate, but Leopold St was quite long so where was the cafe located and what was the newish building in the background.
