Hi Macca

Sorry its not Tyburn House.

It looks like its a bit harder than I thought. I thought as this is an often published photo it would be easy to identify. It seems though after being viewed 65 times there has been only one attempt at identification that is not so.

So I will give a little clue then, Some 20 odd years after this photo was taken there was a tram terminus nearby.

Phil

Tram depot after the Trams stop running, it is on the r/hand of the pic and it was used as factory by Colliers Garage, and became known as Colliers Corner. Len.

Thats correct Len its The Swan Inn at Yardley and just across the road was the tram terminus which later became known as Colliers corner. It later became a DIY store, A Stationary store and I believe its now a Freezer Centre.

As there has been a pub on the site since the 1600's, I wouldn't think it was the original one. There again part of it could possibly be. Here are some photos of the Swan through the last 120 years or so, and I took every one myself. Please run your mouse over the photos for the dates.

One wonders if the interior designer had been on something. Just like the Exterior that banqueting suite looks awful. Taste and style are funny things, very much a thing of the moment after which we have to live with the results..Is the last incarnation of the Swan still standing? I am not sure I know the area....arkrite

Arkrite, The Swan pub was demolished when the area was developed, the site is now home to The Swan Village a block of modern offices & units etc. Len.

Phyl that brings back memories of when I visited my aunt on the Coventry road. When was it demolished?. Jean.

Jean

I have to be honest, I don't know when the latter version of the swan was demolished. I read an article that stated it was built in 1967 (I thought it was later) The same article stated that it lasted for less than 30 years before it too was demolished.

That would put it in the mid 90's sometime. I have to say what they put up its its place looks more like a pub than what they demolished.

Thanks Phy I do remember making a foursome when I first went out with Pete there and that was the last time I set foot in the place or the new one for that matter. Used to pass it a lot on the way to Acocks Green Bowling alley three times a week till about five years ago. Bye. Jean.

Phil, The work on the Coventry Rd Underpass and Swan Island area started in 1966 that is when the One Bar Swan Hotel bit the dust!!. Len.
