Where is This? 115

This is just to inform that I have seen the posts subsequent to my last one. I don’t want to respond now and probably will not other than to say that I have always tried to ‘play nicely’ and fail to see where the mean play is on my part.
So with the thought of a lockout in mind I will end now and either carry on when I can add something that I think is of value to future subject matter… or not.
It should be obvious that using local code even in your own community is a dicey business. On a world wide forum widespread comprehension of the same is out of the question.
Anyway best wishes.

play nicely, please.

Perhaps you'd be so kind as to let me know, gently, just how abject an apology I need to make. I assume, of course, that you read my reply to Rupert.
May I add that I thought I'd found the IDEAL website forum to bring fond memories of joyous times back to mind..........

I wonder if anyone can remind me what made me think that.

I'm so, so saddened and disappointed.

Ian

Rupert, don't you get going any where. You are one of this community of friends. You are always articulate and contribute knowledgeable posts to many of the threads. Look forward to seeing you on the many more threads on the forum. Mo

Until now this thread has been very popular and has given pleasure to many people (myself certainly included).
Please, please don't spoil it by silly scrapping. Years ago we would get our ears boxed for that doing sort of thing, but now we're all conditioned by political correctness, and just get indignant, which can easily get worse.
This is my hobby, and I want it to give me pleasure, which it does, until others spoil it. It is particularly sad when I know that the people involved are just as interested and informed in the subject as I am, and it hurts me to see them upset themselves and others over trivialities.
This is only a bit of fun, surely.
Peter

I have absolutely no idea what this gentleman is referring to. What's a lockout? Has a moderator had words with him? Blimey, I was enjoying this forum.
Think I'll go back to Angling forums....No, I'll persist for a while.
Will somebody please tell me what his problem is?
He seems to be concerned with local code in the community...is this Canadian for something I don't understand? I'll admit to complete bewilderment.
I am a 59 year old man who likes nothing more than having a laugh, going fishing and reminding myself of some of the things I'd nearly forgotten.
Not guilty, Your Honour. Honest!
I'm going to bed now. I'll be back on later tomorrow, I DO hope for enlightenment.

Good night, Ian

Might I add that I've received several PM's from very supportive people, thanks to all of you. As a new boy on here, I'm still feeling my way around and shall continue to hope for guidance.

Ian, you have found a friendly and helpful website with great moderators who do not over react to comments and great supportive members.
The one thing we have learned in recent months as more new members have joined the forum is that what is written in a post is not always how it sounds. Because we can't see someones expression we don't always know when they are joking. You are not the first to have something taken differently to how it was meant and you won't be the last.
As Rupert says it is a world wide site, many of us were born and lived in the Birmingham area until we were adults. But the meaning of some expressions or words have apparently changed over the years and those outside the country are not aware of that.
Welcome to the forum and I hope you will enjoy it as much as your angling site. Incidentally you would not want to eat the fish out of our local river even though it is cleaner now.

Ann B told me to look on this post, I vagueley remember a farmhouse/cottage on Garretts Green Lane in the early 50s. but it didn,t seem as large as the one in the photo, maybe part of it had been demolished, if it stood where the Chestnuts pub now stands where was the large house named the Chestnuts?
