Hi,

I was born and bred in Erdington, before joining the Army in 1988.

I went to Birches Green Junior School and then on to Hodge Hill Comp.

I lived in an estate next to what was then Glenthorne Youth Treatment Centre on the Kingsbury Road and spent most of my time knocking around in Rookery Park.

I would love to hear from anyone or see any photo's of any of the above that any of you have from the period 1972-1990

Thanks in advance...

Hi jayjay

You must forgive my ignorance of all things to do with Erdington, having had very little to do with the area throughout my life. This of course excludes me from sharing any memories of the area with you but I have this photo of Hodge Hill School, is it the one you refer to?

Phil

Phil,

It is indeed Hodge Hill School, pictured from what was the football pitches beside Hodge Hill Girls School.

Thanks for the pic,

Hopefully one of the moderators of this forum will move my original post to where it belongs and I may get even more pics and comments on where I used to live...

jayjay, Type Erdington into search at the top of the page lots of relevant thread, browse them. Len.

Hi Jayjay...I lived in the maisonettes next to Cleeve House..is that where you lived. Glenthorne was the mental hospital when I was a child..I went to Birches Green School too...bit before you methinks,I was there when Mr Watson was headmaster in the early 60's

I too was born and bred in Erdington, lived on Round Rd at the bottom of Birches Green Rd, i was at Birches Green Jnr School 1985-1988 i'll see if i can find some pics :)

Hi Jayjay

I lived on the Bromford and attended Hodge Hill School, probably at the same time as you. I left in 1988. The Headteacher was Mr Morris, the Head of the first year was Mr Tarpey, and the Head of the fifth year was Mrs Snow. My Form teacher was Mrs Walker. I loved English, and my teachers were Mrs Williams until her accident, Mr Davies and Mr Redgrave, who taught Benny from Crossroads - he always liked to tell people that! Mr Lewis was my Science teacher, and I remember the two music teachers, one was nice and one wasn't! Mr Searle was an Art teacher. I had Mr Rudge for Maths, so I never learnt a thing!

Hi Jayjay,
I have looked on fb for you many times! Put some details into google and this link to Glenthorne came up. We used to hang around together before you joined the army. You posted this years ago, but hoping you may have the same email. I had a younger brother who you were mates with too. We didn't go to the same school, but we lived close by. Think I visited you on the then 'new estate' on Spring Lane, where Copson's plumbing used to be before you joined up. You had moved there with your mother. If you get this, would be lovely to catch up. Couldn't find you on Fb. If your initials are JA, it would be nice to catch up. K
