When did OUR become MY

postie

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
When I was young everything was OURS, OUR house, OUR garden, OUR kid, OUR wench, OUR ball and so on.
Nowadays it's more, MY house, MY car, MY holiday, MY computer etc.
So when did it change ?.For me I think it may have been when I met MY first girlfriend and she became something that was mine and not ours. Something I wanted for ME and not to be shared with anyone else.
It wasn't something that happened intentionally, it just sort of happened and changed the way I thought about life.
As kids we never had much, but what we did have, we shared.
These days its more a case of THIS is mine and I'm not sharing it.
This website is the exception, we all share our feelings with each other and are there for one another in the good times and the bad.
If only life could be like this website it would be sooo much easier.

Rod and myself of the old school this is our site, but we like you to call it our site which I hope you do, We always have and always will call it our site because it would not and could work if we said it's my site we all have to be part and parcel of this team with out each other we are nothing, we all have our bit to do so keep doing it and we are a success. I hope my explanation is under stood by all

postie,
I wonder if the change from "our" "my" is a reflection of the way the people have become more materialistic and selfish?
I think the change came about before Thatcherism but it was certainly accelerated in that era.

Brilliant Postie, and just have to re-iterate Johns words. When I first started MY co-operation with John I felt in some ways a little awkward John had spent hours building the beginings of the site, but it soon became OURS as OUR relationship grew and trust increased. Have to say here that JKC was to my mind in at the start too. Just look at how big the OURS is now, our websites, our forum, and its still growing a little bit here and a little bit there. All of you share in that big OURS
My marriage is the same, WE get post, Income is OURS etc etc. Oisin I think your right about when all this Me Me Me began, but isnt it strange, when you ask someone who responsibility something is, it's never ME, it's always someone else.

Almost the only thing, apart form my clothes, in our house that I can say is mine is MY Puter :coolsmiley:

Its great to be a member of OUR Forum,,created by John, Rod & Others for benefit of ALL of Us
From small Acorns do Giant Oaks grow,,, My (Our) Thanks to the planters & cultivators,, O0

In OUR house everything is OURS,,or so i am told :coolsmiley:
Urrmh why is it that All the Bills are MINE :-[ :'(

When the children were young they were' ours' when they were good but when they were naughty they were 'mine'.

 I have a friend and when we chat over a cup of tea we often refer to 'The My Generation'. Meaning the generations of our sons and daughters and their offspring’s,
you see Postie in not just a UK thing.
Col and I refer to most things as OURS, but I get annoyed when referred to as 'My Wife' rather than Chris or Christine. I belong to me and no one else, I am not a possession but a person.

Chris

Chris,I don't mind 'my wife' its 'the wife' I hate.Fortunately not one of my husbands sayings,
Welcome back by the way.Alberta.

Totally agree with all above - the MY generation - and OUR SITE is definitely OURS.
