What do they mean?

Officially recognised in the UK as a distinct cultural and ethnic group
Traditionally travelling show people.

Yes I see. But that seems to make them similar to travellers but looking at google :
Are showmen the same as Travellers?
Unlike Irish Travellers and Gypsies, showmen do not view themselves as an ethnic group but a cultural one united by the fairground industry
I can accept that they consider themselves a little different, but it seems very mixed up , and use by either of these groups of an ethnic distinction in a questionaire as a distortion of the facts
