Whalton or Wall

master brummie
William Whalton (Wall?) enlisted in Militia 13.2.1906 in Wolverhampton aged 18 years 2 months (given age). Groom by trade. Address given 28 Walsall Street.
Names father as William Wall, address 18 Pipers Row, Wolverhampton. Two brothers named, John and Thomas, both serving soldiers, John in the Worcesters and Thomas R. H. Artillery. A sister named Mary Alley (married name?) 128 Herbert Street, Small Heath. 3 times signed his name on Attestation Papers as William Wall and then Wall crossed out and the surname Whalton signed. Have 1911 census for him (as William Whalton) serving with 4th Bn. Worcestershire Regiment aged 23, single birthplace St. Nichells(?), Staffs. All military info under name Whalton. I presume he must be a Wall but why use the name Whalton? Can't find any census records (or ER) to tie them under the one surname. Any help would be most appreciated. No birth record on Free BMD for a William Whalton 1885 - 1890 but a William Wall March Q. 1888 for a William Wall (Wolverhampton). Pension Ledger info states discharged (wounds) 1915 (GSW right leg) married and a address for (?) Bldgs. Kempsey, Worcs.

I had tried Walton but nothing. Don't know brothers DoB's but think they are older being that they were both serving when William enlisted (13.2.1906) also sister being married most likely older. Not being able to find any of them on the census (1891, 1901, 1911) with the exception of William for 1911 most strange.

Just checking the address for Mary Alley(?).
Think it must be Herbert Road and in 1905 and 1908 an Alfred Taylor is listed as a shopkeeper.

I think the William Wall birth reg March qtr has mmn Mason and while having an older brother Thomas does not seem ot have an older brother John. Father also seems to be Walter.
Sorry to be negative but I think ruling things out is as important as finding to the right info.

Just checked service details again and both brothers and sister are older, had not noticed the letter O (in red) to the left of names. See attached. Also address (Kempsey) from pension info if any one can make it out.

Janice that looks right Bakery Buildings. It was May 1915 when William was discharged (wounds) so that was most likely his address at that time, and he is a married man now (single 1911 census).
