Weymouth Social Club

MadMomma

Wannabe Brummie Again
Does anyone know anything about the Weymouth Social Club? My great grandfather (Charles Hulls 1875 - 1940) lived at 139 Bracebridge Street. There is a newspaper clipping from the Birmingham Mail in January 1940 from his sons and daughters thanking neighbours, etc and mysteriously everyone at the Weymouth Social Club. Not sure if there is any connection with the Weymouth Arms?

My uncle had a caravan in Weymouth for donkeys years. He used his affiliated card and used social club there. My father went down on several occasions and maintained that his brother was well known there.
You could build up a relationship of a period, in this case it was nearly 30 years.

There was a Weymouth Arms in Guildford Street, is that close to Bracebridge Street. Mike could well be right, the advert may have been entered as Social instead of Sick Club.

Yes, an old pub, advertised as Guildford Street.Source: British Newspaper Archive
