Wellington Road Handsworth

Ian FOFB

Brummie yes ! Novice no !
The 'then' pictures are taken from old postcards, the 'now' pictures taken from Google Streetview.
The older of the pictures is thought to date from the 1900's.

Ian.

I had a mate who lived just behind where the camera was on the 'modern' photo, and I well remember many times waiting for a No 11 bus at the stop on the island. It was a 'fare stage' and some nights the buses would sit there for anything up to half an hour while the crew had their cuppa. It looks really semi-rural and up-market on the 'modern' photo, doesn't it?

Great stuff as usual, Ian.

This section of the road on the left-had side seems to have been altered. The housing (?) to the left being replaced with buildings set further back from the road with its own seperate slip road.

The road still features telegraph poles and plenty of trees, some of which must be those in the B&W photo. As with most properties, many of the original gates and boundary fences/walls have gone in favour off-street parking.Screenshot_20261102_205524_Chrome.jpg
