Wellhead Well Head House Perry Barr

This house (blue dot) would have stood near the junction of Aldridge Road with Wellhead Lane and opposite the stadium. (The former Birmingham University Building would have occupied the Wellhead House and orchard site until fairly recently - the University is now demolished and the place is showing as an empty site on Streetview). Six (of the original 8) semi-detached victorian houses (yellow dot) remain just north of, what was once, Wellhead House orchard.

The house existed from at least 1858 and appears it might have produced milk. It also had an orchard - the feature north of the house.

Looking at the paths on the map, the house seems to be later associated with Wellhead Brewery.

This is what might be the house (second photo) just behind the cart. I wondered if the sign on the other side of the wall was for Wellhead Brewery ?

However, I have a problem with these two photos. The farm building in the two photos is different. One caption must be wrong if it's the junction of Wellhead Lane and Aldridge Road. My suspicion is the first one is wrong.

just looking again at my photo post 4 i notice on the door it says reception...somewhere in the back of my mind did i read that it was once the offices of a garage ?

Maybe someone could look up "George.... Coal merchant" on Wellhead Lane or Aldridge Road please. The gate has a sign in the second photo.

You're probably thinking of these Lyn.

Its a good match Lyn. There seems to be a missing small gable. Maybe it's hidden by the photo angle. It somehow doesn't look like the corner of Wellhead Lane to me judging by the building left edge in the 1973 photo.

It is Lyn, on the aeriel view. It was the original Alexander Sports Stadium. Wellhead House was across the road. Don't know what the building was next to the garage in post #8, though.

I've enlarged the house in the second photo post #3 and the house in the aeriel view post #9 and I'm pretty sure they're the same.

I've started a thread for Wellhead Farm (which inludes Jack Allen's Motor business) here:

That's great, thanks Brummie-lad. Helps confirm the second photo in post #3. Your map also makes it clear that the buildings in that photo are farm out-buildings, not the farmhouse. On that corner of Aldridge Road and Wellhead Lane the farm buildings were demolished before the farmhouse, probably early 1960s.

What date is the map please ?

I'm copying Brummie-lads post this info to the Wellhead Farm thread.
