hi folks...just had to tell you all....my eldest son john has been trying to find a job for nearly 2 years now..after quite a few let downs of promised work he was ready to give up but persisted...in march he spotted a recruitement add in the job centre and applied...its a very large new set up and after 6 weeks of training..taking a few exams..police checks and drug and alcohol tests he was offered a job about 6 weeks back and they said he would be contacted with a start date...as the weeks passed by with no news we both thought it had all fallen through but this morning he received a call asking him to report for work on the 21st...to say we are all delighted is an understatement..he was dancing round the house lol...i guess the moral of this story is never give up on what you want out of life...john wont read this and if he did he would be most embarrassed but it makes me feel better and it is nice to have some good news...well done son...im proud of you...

Really good news. Now it's a case of getting stuck in and soaking up whatever training is given.

Well Done to your son, Lynn may he go from strength to strength from now on. Best Wishes from Anthea

Well done John I can imagine how happy you are Lyn. I hope this gives others the strength to keep trying. Jobs for youngsters are not easy to come by today....congratulations.

Many congratulations to your son for getting a job in such difficult times :encouragement: I know exactly how pleased and proud you feel as I have been through the same with my son. I wish John every success in his new job!

Lyn, I'm so pleased for John, it gives me hope for my grandson who is finding it so difficult to cope with not being given a chance.
Lynne.

I have had the pleasure of meeting John and he is a really nice guy, he is not a quitter and he deserves his chance.
Good on yer, mate.

Congratulations to John and I hope he enjoys the work and it leads to bigger things in the future :star:

A friend of mine, a fella dog/walker, has a daughter who finishes at
Leicester Uni in the summer, recently applied for a IT job at John
Lewis, there are 1200 applicants !How do you compete with numbers like that?
Bit different to my day, you could leave one job on Friday and start a new one on Monday. Bernard

Lyn, that is brilliant news, well done to John, his perseverance has paid off, lets hope he really enjoys it - just the morale lift of being employed is great though!
Sue

That's great news Lyn. It's a horribly soul destroying period to go through. He's done incredibly well - it's a tough market out there. Lovely to hear the news Lyn. Viv.

Congratulations to your son and praise for his perseverence, I really feel for the young today attempting to find that first job, when I left school in 1944 although the war was still on i had a wide choice of jobs and even when I came out of the RAF in 1956 I had a choice of FIVE jobs to pick from (REAL jobs). Eric

I don't know what is happening with my postings.....I posted my message on here, it came up twice, so I thought I would delete one of them, and now neither are showing.........

Anyhow...what I wrote first time around

I know exactly how he is feeling, I spent 4 years out of work between 1981 and 1985, had a wife and two young to children to feed and cloth, god knows how many jobs I went after, but in the end I did get one which paid me £5.00 a week more than my dole money, but at least I got some of my pride back, and it was my work that paid for the meals in my house.....So Well Done John, and I like to wish you well for the future......

thank you all for your kind comments..after losing his last job john refused out of pride to sign on and lived for quite a while on the bit of savings he had even though he was entitled to claim...of course as time went on and his money dwindled he had no choice but hated every signing on day....i have alway tried to instill in my children if you get knocked down get back up...if you get knocked again get up stronger and if you get knocked down again come out fighting...not always easy i know..any road up all is well and now all i have to decide is what sarnies to put in his lunch box...cheese or maybe just good old fashioned spam...
