Webster Booth

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
I came across information concerning the famous British tenor Webster Booth. Leslie Webster Booth was born in Handsworth in 1902 and recorded
some very well known songs. He was often paired with Anne Ziegler. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webster_Booth The BBC Light Programme often played songs by the duo and Webster's solo singing. Many of us will remember these two in particular....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrLBbznmCt8&feature=related

Thanks, Jennyann. As you say, that makes the memories flood back. Never realised he was born a near-Brummie. He and Anne Ziegler were as much a part of my wartime childhood listening as Tommy Handley, The Andrews Sisters, The Inkspots and of course the news ("and this is Alvar Lidell reading it" - used to love his voice).

Yes, thank you Jennyann. I remember Anne Ziegler and Webster Booth when I was a child. I used to enjoy them singing 'We'll gather lilacs in the Spring' but that is the only song I remember - it's been a long time ago !!!!

Hello Jennyann, Thank you for posting the youtube clip of the two singers. Listening to them brought a lump to my throat as the childhood memories came flooding back. What superb vocalists they were. Anthea

Hello everyone, I was interested to read the recent posts on Webster Booth. He was born at 157 Soho Road, Handsworth and he and his wife Anne Ziegler taught me singing when they were living in Johannesburg in the sixties. If you want any further information about him, you can read my blog: Ziegler-Booth
