Washwood Heath Road

In post #79 AI suggests shops in the vicinity of the Home Made Cake shop, one of these is Bon Bon (confectioner). The only Bon Bon I can find is about a about a mile and a half away in Flaxley Road.
The 3 smaller windows at ground level look very much like those in the original image so perhaps the shop was near here and not Washwood Heath Road.

And on the 1939 register there is a baker at 694 Washwood Heath Road and comparing the brick work between and around the upper windows it could be it.

The 2008 view on google street view gives the best comparison.
YES! I pretty sure you’ve got it. Someone had given me that address once before but I’d discounted it as the windows were not the same. I’ve just looked on google earth at the historical pics and yes the whole frontage was changed about 10 years ago, the 2008 view you mention looks like it - thank you so much and for everyone else’s suggestions too.

not sure if this is any help but on there is a norman william butt on the 1936/37 electoral rolls along with a may butt at no 98 couchman road saltley and on the 1952 to 56 they are living at no 54 rymond road stechford...so it could be they did not live above the shop which does not really help much as to the location of the shop..i will check the newspapers for any adverts...

Yes, thats them! They always ran shops as we do still now (but in Bournemouth!) This is one of their first shops in Mosley Street in the early 1900’s. Corrall is May Butt’s maiden name, AJ Corrall was her father. We love this picture but from what I gather the whole area was redeveloped and no longer exists.
