Hello everyone, i wonder if anyone can help me with my conundrum.

On my deceased grandfathers birth certificate there is no registered father but his mother is called Annie wall (no occupation) of 71 hawkeley road northfield. Now i cannot find the above address but have managed to locate a Mrs Wall at 71 Hawkesley mill lane northfield as the closest result in the 1911 census. The difficulty being that he was abandoned as a child at the infamous 77 dudley road.

If anyone can help that would be great but with this much limited information its doubtful

hi chris, on the electoral rolls at 71 hawkesley lane northfield in 1912 is listed arthur wall and at 67 hawkesley lane another arthur wall

in 1919 at 67 hawkesley mill lane is arthur wall and harry sutton (both in army)
in 1922 at 67 hawkesley mill lane is harry and edith sutton, arthur wall, kenneth james reeves. and at 71 hawkesley mill lane is hannah wall and frederick thomas kemp
in 1925 at 67 hawkesley mill lane is harry and edith sutton, arthur and annie wall. and at 71 frederick and harriett kemp
in 1927 as above
in 1930 all as above but with fredk and harriett kemp are kate and annie wall
in 1935 all as above (kate is now listed as catherine)

i dont know if any of this will help but it seems to show that hawkesley lane became hawkesley mill lane

This may be just coincidence, but in the electoral rolls at 67 Hawkesley mill Lane :

1922 Harry& Edith Sutton & Arthur Wall.

1935 Harry & Edith Sutton & Arthur Wall

At no 71 Hawkesley mill Lane

1925 Frederick Thomas & Harriet Kemp
1930-39 Frederick Thomas & Harriet Kemp & Kate (Catherine in 35 & 39) & Annie Wall

It seems too much of a coincidence to me for them not to be connedted to your grandfather, but either there were two Annie Walls, or else she was registered in 1930 at two close addresses

Originally it was just a track that served Hawkesley mill & Hawkesley (Mill) Farm, which were on the other side of the ford and the railway line. I don't think it was named until around 1900, when they started to build a few houses on i, and presumably metalled it. by about 196 there were houses down most of the road.

A Google search gives Hawksley Mill the top mill on river Rea.Was first recorded in 1255 and survived as a Corn Mill untill
c1890.Hawlsley Mill lane served as a way to get to the Austin Village built for the Austin Workers after the first
World war.I was born in the Austin Village in 1930.It was a convevient route to reach the Trams,later the Buses
on the Bristol Road.A bridge for pedestrians crossed the River Rea and a ford for cars.
