Very very old buses.

G G Jean

Brummy Wench.
Although the photo's were sent from a friend in Malta I wondered if any of the buses were manufactured in this area?. Jean.

Jean, I like the photographs, is there anyone who has one that is shaped like a boat ? Seen one in a museum once ( was it at Wythall ?) made of wood I believe.

Is that true or is it getting closer to April the first:rolleyes:. I love the old buses in service on Gozo and once got off as the driver was seven parts to the wind. A local told me a lot of their buses were bought from England many years ago but not as far back as the ARK.:D Jean.

In order, L to R:
1 - Crossley, made in Manchester - a large car chassis often used as a commercial vehicle in its 'afterlife'.
2 - American, probably a Dodge
3 - American, possibly a Ford
4 - European, might even be British, but too blurred to accurately know. Could be a large car chassis.
5 - won't enlarge, but looks American.

All locally bodied in Malta most likely.

To me the main attraction of Malta and Gozo is the fleet of old English buses. Have attached 2 pics of bus terminus at Valetta. Lady in pink blouse in 2nd pic is my sister in law Edna. Eric

Eric I love Gozo and their old cars too even though some are falling apart. Think they have had to tighten up on their driving tests and MOT's now. Jean.

Lloyd, Unfortunately you are correct, I go to Malta every year and each visit there are less and less old buses, still nothing lasts forever. Although one company as 3 really old ones which it as restored and uses them for local excursions, have attached pic of my favourite, wooden seats, hard suspension and noisy but enjoyed every nostalgic minute Eric

The Blue Bus looks like its on a modern chassie post #9 Just a thought:)

Could be Alf, I'm afraid I don't know anything about buses - or cars for that matter. John, yes I remember the Malta Buses being Green and Gozo being Red/Orange, now they all appear to be Red/Orange. I shall be there end of June to celebrate my 80th birthday. Eric

Saw a book in Oxfam yesterday on "Malta Buses". It seemed to have some of the pictures that Jean showed at the beginning of the thread in it.

Fans of the buses of Malta (and Gozo) are invited to view and contribute to a new thread: "Buses of Malta (Including Gozo)". Jean kindly e-mailed me a lovely collection of pictures from the 1960s and 1970s, which I have posted on the new thread. [Sorry to mess you around, Peter: I thought the subject merited a new dedicated thread. :)]

Thanks Peter Have emailed a thank you to Alfred too for forwarding them. He always comes up with the goods. Jean.
