Here is the photo made brighter, looks like an abandoned area awaiting demolition, rubbish in the gutters everywhere, looks like a corner shop with 2 people down the end. Typical Victorian era with lots of small paned windows for workshops, entrance must be round the corner

Spot on! incredibly the building is still there along with the lamp post complete with the same labels on, original B&W photo must also be recent

well done clarkstreet....how did you get that...did you live around there ? no cobbled pavements now and what i thought was a side road on the right seems to be the entrance to the factory

The pavement is still the same on the right. I think they are less defined than in the B/W photo.

Examining the excavations from my attic, in a couple of copies of "The Aeroplane" from 1945-55, I came across these adverts for the firm.



The firm was formed in 1877 at 135 High St Bordesley as William docker & Co to manufactue varnish for blacking stoves,and soon also opened a factory in nearby Allcock St.. In the mid 1880s they opened a factory in Rotton Park St, and for a few years maintained both sites but, but soon concentrated on the Rotten Park St site. They soon expanded into paint, varnish & cellulose lacquer manufacturer, and, as can be seen from the...

I thought I recognised it when I first saw it. then when confirmed it was Rotten Park Street realised how I did so. When I left school I worked in the laboratory of McKechnie Bros. also in Rotten Park St. I also think it could have been Docker Bros. but nearly 80 years on who knows !!!

In 1913, it was the corporation's salvage /destructor department on map. In directories of the time Dockers are listed as next to it, though not quite clear which side of them, though from the ,map it must be the unnamed building to the north
