Unett Street Newtown

Thanks all for getting back, this is great.
I didn't know there were two Unett Streets, my grandmother would have been attached to the Smethwick one.
Eleanor Elizabeth Wood nee Allen born born about 1869 Walsall
the side where no 22 was looks to now be a large park area and in 1939 your grandmother was still at no 22 a widow...lots of records are on ancestry

Astoness your a star, I didn't realize she was still at Unett Street in the 1930's. So sad I am the last of the clan and there's no one to
share with. This lady has eluded me for years, well done you.

Lyn, this brings back so many memories. Aunt Olive was indeed married by then to Ted Brittain. Burton Wood was always known as Uncle Tom, Burton was his grandmothers maiden name. The star of is grandma, she would never tell anyone her age and there it is in black and white.
Thankyou so much.

Another photograph of the quadrangle between Unett St and Mosborough Crescent - taken from a poor quality 110-negative - this was after the play are in the middle had been upgraded and the old massive tree-trunk in the middle had been removed:-

I've got a photo some where of Richard Moriarty and I sitting on the tree trunk when we were very young. I'll have to see if I can find it. I think his late dad took it.

Hello Mark,
Great photos of Unett Street. I used to live in Tower Street around the corner and had a couple of friends who lived there early 60’s. Johnny Norton in Mosborough Crescent who tragically died at a young age and Ronnie (Summer Lane School) who lived in a block of flats at the end of Unett Street.
Also remember Patrick, Carol Hunt who lived in the masenettes at the top of Unett Street to Road on right and the churchyard grounds opposite where Moll had a small youth club.
Hello,
I would be interested to know who left this reply ( as I must know you) I lived at 23 Tower Street. Johnny Norton and Patrick Ward were my best mates during the sixties, Patrick lived in the maisonettes as did the very attractive Carol Hunt.
Johnny did die a tragic death in his mid teens, that I remember only too well and I attended his funeral.
Ronnie was in my class at Summer Lane School all through the four years we were there 1959-62.
I also went to Molls club in the St George’s churchyard grounds (I went to St. George’s school prior to Summer Lane) and played for his football team. They were great times!
