In the 70's Birmingham built about five of these incinerator type waste disposal plants at Tyseley, Kings Norton, Castle Bromwich, Perry Barr, I'm sure there was another one somewhere that I can't recall at the moment. The trouble is although they cost the ratepayers untold millions they were all flawed and the emissions could not be controlled.
They tried various methods to remedy the problems spending more millions on them, but in the end they gave in and closed them all down and demolished them all except Tyseley which they sold to the French. The French said thankyou very much and built a new plant in 1996 and seem to have continued problem free since then,
