Tyburn Road - old shop sign - Lister & Pointon

Ian FOFB

Brummie yes ! Novice no !
There is an off licence on Tyburn Road ( opposite Wood Lane ) that is either being closed down or refurbished.
The illuminated perspex sign has been taken down revealing the old shop hoarding - some of the members on the site might know more about it - I certainly don't - looks 50's or 60's . A Google search on the name doesn't bring anything back.

Hi Frothy - yes it is - and answering Mike - I think it is around 672 or 674 Tyburn Road.

And here it is from Google Streetview - with the Malhi's Super Booze off licence sign still in place.

Looking at the photo close up it says along the top:
A. LISTER M.R.M.S A.M. Inst. BE & L.A PARSONAGE

Thats quite funny as they refer to A listers today when talking about top stars

In reply to John Knight - it is already posted - post #1. - I can e-mail you a higher resolution if required - just PM me.

Spoke to the shopkeeper two doors down at the Newsagents and General store - he said that the off licence has closed.
They did not bother renewing their licence ( rumour has it that they could not compete , price wise, with the supermarkets ) and are converting the shop back into living accomodation - I think at present that they live in the flat above the shop.
The premises between what was the offie and the Newsagent/General Store was converted back to living accomodation a few years back - another local shop that went to the wall.

Not surprised, I can remember going in there more than once, ( twice actually lol ) and walking out after 5 minutes as there were no staff in there at all, or if there were, they were hiding !

could've robbed the place !

Not used the place much myself either - always found the place dingy - a lick of paint and a brighter light might have helped - the window was pointless as near enough covered so no natural light reach the inner.

Wasn't the nicest of shops. Dark and unwelcoming and most of the stock was out of date. I think what finally tipped the scales was kids pestering them.
If the sign is not too heavy, I'm going to ask for it.
