TULLETT, Thomas

Hi Rebecca,

Checking the line I have been researching against the details you posted I may be on the wrong track.
The 1841 census that had Thomas Tullett (hat maker) and Harriett (nee Smith) his wife and the following children Ephraim 12, Joseph 10, THomas 6 and Albert 1 year 6 months. If your Thomas William (b. 1834) is the Thomas on the 1841 census that I believed to be Henry Thomas then I have got it wrong. Henry Thomas on most of the info I have is down as just Thomas the reason I assumed the Thomas on 1841 census was correct. I had found no details for birth/christening for either Thomas William, Ephraim or Joseph but did find the christening date for Edward, 6 January 1812 at St. Phillips, Birmingham.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,
It's all fascinating stuff, I wish I had some more information to give you but I have only just started to research my family tree. If I come across anything else I shall make sure you are contacted.

Becca.

Hi
My sister and I did some research at the National Archives earlier in the year on Thomas Tullett's (b1786) bankruptcy case in 1830 and found some interesting information. One of the documents stated that Jane Ovey, Thomas Tullett's first wife died in July 1826 and that Edward was the only child of that marriage. This means Ephraim (b1829) and Joseph (b1831), who were living with Thomas and Harriet in the 1841 census, were not children from the first marriage. Since Thomas and Harriet didn't marry until 1831, we have concluded that Ephraim and Joseph are Harriet and Thomas' children born out of wedlock. We also know that a Charles Tullett Smith married in 1845 aged 24 listing Thomas Tullett, hatter, as his father. We have found a baptism record of a Charles Tulwick Smith, mother Harriet, no father listed, in 1821 in Solihull. Our conclusion is that Charles was Thomas and Harriet's son born before Jane Ovey died!

In the bankruptcy papers of 1830 Thomas' accounts for past years showed payments for 'his wife's expenses including medical attendance, living in the country etc' £50, and 'keep of pony for ditto' £30. This indicates that Jane was ill and being nursed before she died.

Various other documents indicate that Jane Ovey had some property in her own right and that this was passed to her son Edward and Thomas had a life interest in some of the property.

There is also information in the bankruptcy documents that Thomas paid £210 over seven years for 'board and expenses of sister and family including her funeral'. We're not sure which sister this is but we know it can't be Martha as she was still alive in 1861.

Let me know if you want further, detailed information on any of this.

Debbie
