On a marriage cert that I have it shows the trade as a trow shingler Ive looked up shingler and found .. roof tiler using wooden tiles but nothing for TROW . the letter T is slightly different from other Ts on the certificate any help would be appreciated cheers Tom

If the wedding took part in Birmingham, I think it would be far more likely that the "shingler" was one who was involved in the transformation of molten iron into wrought iron by removing the carbon and other impurities by oxidisation in a reverberatory furnace.
"Trow" is sometimes used as a dialectal variation of "trough".

I believe a Trow was a sailing vessel on the River Severn with seagoing abilities . As to what shinglers had to do with them I dont know.
 
thankyou David and Arkrite for your help that makes three versions , having worked in a brassfoundry in my younger years and Ive done an eeny,meeny ,minny ,mo I like davids .cheers Tom
