Robert Frost on 'Old Pics of Brum' wrote "Here's a picture of my Great Grandfather James Ashton. Does anybody know where and when this was taken? "
There's a clue behind the tram looks like William Maddox was the licensee of the pub/outdoor.
There's also a William Maddox Beer Retailer at 183 Icknield Port Road, in the 1930 Kelly's
BUT my thoughts were that the photo is more in the 1914-18 era
More likely the Icknield Port Road address as that was where the Ladywood trams went. It probably pre 1915 as trams carried route numbers instead of letters. Adverts for the Army seem to be in the lower windows suggesting WW1.
brilliant photo wherever it was taken and the pub/outdoor certainly looks small enough to be the lamp tavern which is apparently the smallest pub in birmingham and most importantly still up and running and doing very well i believe..
