My husband's kicking himself now Colin. We heard the whistle and Don thought it was an engine moving in for the Severn Valley so he jumped in the car and went to the station .... not realising it was the Tornado going into B'ham. He's now very disappointed he's missed this.
Oh well, he should keep up with the news shouldn't he?
Thanks Colin, I enjoyed looking and listening to that, it reminds me of when I used to catch the Bristol-Newcastle train every Sunday night for a year in 1958. It always seemed exciting standing on the platform when a steam train pulled in - feeling the heat as the engine went past - rushing to board a coach which had a proper side corridor and compartments...:encouragement:
My duaghter Kates friend was one of the crew on the Tornado as it went through New Street, Sophie is a gorgeous blonde and if you saw her, you'd never put her with trains, but she is curator at the Kirklees Railway in Yorkshire, last year she was at the York Rail museum.
