Tividale Tin Chapel

morrl02

proper brummie kid
I have been told that there was a tin chapel in Tividale in approx 1875? I was wondering if anyone had any information on it, or where I might find any photos

These buildings were called "Tin Tabernacles"! I looked on the Sedgeleymanor website but there are no pictures, just an example on Wikipaedia (is that how you spell it?)

St. Germain's Church on City Rd. Edgbaston, used to have a church hall of this type until it was replaced in the early '60's.

Hi morrl02

There were many Tin Tabernacles scattered around the country and for some strange reason most of them were painted blue. The one in Tividale was on Dudley Rd East and as far as I can make out hasn't been demolished all that long. I wasn't able to come up with a photo, though I don't doubt that there are some about. I would think that it would have looked much the same as one of these.

1. Warwick Rd Greet (still in use today)
2. Avoncroft Museum (exhibit)

HI Phil

That is great, thank you. I wasn't sure if one exsisted or not. The people I believe got married there, I'm unable to find a marraige certificate for, the only information I have from a distant relative was that they married 'in the tin chapel Tividale', so to know that there was one there is a great start!

Many thanks
Lorna

Thank you everyone for your help. I'm now trying to find out if a Thomas Weston and LOuisa Deakin actually married there, I have been unable to find any record of their wedding, some family members say they were not married others say they had seen a marriage certificate. Does anyone know where the records would be held if the church no longer exsists? I think they would have married in approx 1875 but can't find their marriage on ancestry etc
