Tindal Arms

Charlie

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
My Great Great Grandfather used to run the Tindal Arms in King Edwards Road.
I assumed it was just a small back street boozer until someone recently said they remembered it. I think she must be mistaken, but can anyone tell me when it closed? It would be somewhere around where Sea Life Centre is now, I think.
Sorry, not the easiest of questions I know!

Could anyone do a Kellys look-up to see when the Tindal Arms in King Edwards Road Ladywood closed please? My gt gt grandmother was running it in 1858/9 and Joseph Ebbern was there in 1862 - but when did it close?
Thanks

A little late, but the last mention in the directories was in the Kellys dated 1890 (which would refer to 1889), when the landlord was William Hannis. The 1892 edition did not list it, and later it became coffee rooms. Newspaper reports show that William Hannis was convicted of allowing betting on the premises, allthough he was indisposed at the time and his wife was in charge. the licence was not renewed and this decision was confirmed on appeal i october 1891 (much detail in Birm Post report)
