It might just be me not familiar with Brummie sayings, but came across this in relation to giving donations to the Birmingham Mail Christmas appeal, and I;ve never come across it myself. , and was wondering from where the term might be derived

I seem to remember going somewhere and seeing what seemed to be 10 bob notes stuck to the ceiling. Searched around and only found on You Tube an American wrapping up a coin in a dollar bill and throwing it up, and it stuck !

I think this is actually what they did. My mother wrote about doing this at home in her memories about family life in Arthur Street.

”Towards Christmas pennies were thrown on the ceiling to save. They stuck on with beer” She went on to say “It must have been good beer!”
