Thread Hijacking

A Brummie Dude
When a person starts a posting on a message board, or forum, or Facebook, that others are able to comment on, that original posting and the comments on it are called a thread. A thread hijacking occurs when one or more individuals commenting on the original posting, go off topic, creating a separate conversation. This is rude, and bad internet etiquette. If people want to discuss a different topic, they should start their own thread.

Thank you for this Pete,
Moderators have quite a job 'behind the scenes' moving posts from the incorrect sections and trying to sort out hijacked threads.
To be fair many people don't intend to be rude they just want to chat about something included in the thread with another member but it would help if they did this by private message

thank you too

An observation, it also helps to refer back if you’re responding to an earlier point in a thread eg quote the post number (top right corner). It’s easy to jump in and appear rude when you have enthusiastic contributors. But sometimes we need to make it clear about why we’re responding too. Viv.
