the yorkshire grey pub

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
Hi pub crawlers
did any of you frequent this pub in the late forties or fifties even the
sixties the yorkshire grey it was down the dudley rd
just up from the grove picture house right hand side as you are walking
down it was a thriving pub in its hey day
but later on in years it went down the pan they had good excellent bands there at week ends
i think it was on the corner of moilliet st as well as the dudley rd
every body from the are used it - it was always packed out
and smokey of all dicriptions of some chemicals
you could buy any think you wanted to order
until old louie from C. Division was on the case
he was a very good copper and stopped it all
in fact i would say cleaned it up
he was a little chap and a very nice man , he did not have a attituude mannor and he new all the crims of the day
but forget all that it was a good pint
and i was wondering whether or not can some-one tell me
is that pub still there or could have it become another eating house like the lee bridge taveren
or as any body got a picture of this pub ,they could put on the forum
have a nice day Astonian ;;

Hiya Astonian..hope everything ok your end
We came past the Yorkshire a few months ago ..dont know what they are doing there but it looks like nothing is left of the inside of the pub..some guys were popping in and out think they are either working on the inside or clearing it out ..I remember the pub in the 60s it was ok but not as good as down stairs at the lee bridge (the tagus bar ) i know you will remember there

Re: the yorkshire gey pubhi pub crawlers

HI VICKY ;
I Went down and parked up i9n winson street afew weks back and walked around the area i wish i had taken a camera with me and beleive me i was totallly shocked to see how the old area had degenerated and i stood out side the grey ; for a while and reonmissioned about the yester years of my time and alot of family and friends around the area from most of the streets and sad it was to se the old grey turned into some kind of rented rooms from top to bottom ; yester years how the reggai would be blasting and coming out of this grey and great pub ;and my associats used to be in there ;most nights
and then i mooched and strolled up the dudley rd stopping out side the sumer field park and yet again thinking about the times and its familys
loking at the old police station ; and thinking of the busynes of the station and certain police officiers o f the cid and the uniformed officiers
and the local kids that was took in there and then i walked around the corner to se the new police station ; i did not like the look of the dezign
and then i walked down to the dudley rd hospital and sat on the wall across from the dudley rd hospital where i was born ; the wall i sat on
was st patricks church and school and thought of my school friends and the dances that we attended there
and if you never went to mass and and school the school teachers would say why did you not attend mass on sunday ; if you said you did
and you know you was telling fibs ; the teacher would test you and say what colour was the preist wearing ; and hen he would catch you out
and i was in a state of remissing again of wondering where oh where have all these big family and friends have been disperds to ;
then i ended up to se my long time friends at the frying pan ;chippie they was over the moon to see me they was very excited indee in seeing me
steve said and kept on how i had not changed in fifty years but i said do not be silly i feel like ninty ; and he gave me a free meal of my choice
and sid call in when you can but i said i live in worcestshire and i do not know if and when i will call in the area again ;
we spoke about the ajoininggardners club that i was elected to take on but oweing to certain things like being in the knowing of all its members whom i met on my first interview with the managerswhom i knew and knowing they would expect the afrer drinking sessions i said to my wife i will not move in
so on the day of expecting i told them know and declined to move in on the day
winson green hold alot of tremoundous memorys for me ;
best wishes and a mery christmas and a happy newyear to you astonian;;

I took this photograph today at the former Yorkshire Grey. Is this what they mean by Brexit - no need for any of that fancy French grammar?

I only patronised this pub near the end ... however, I witnessed the most marvellous games of dominoes played in the typical Caribbean ostentatious style - in that the final dom was almost smashed through the table in victory and then an uproar of celebrations. Fantastic.

Hi midland pub what can you tell me about the other grey pub, meaning the Earl Grey
on pershore road have you got a picture of the old pub and what about any up to date info ,regarding
the future of it .
As we all know its been closed for donkeys years and the building as had a make over
i beleive its connected to belgrave police station and it asits colour blue , i do know that one as well
as i have associated in many years gone bye befor it was bang up
what about the Cannon pub the notorious one in edward road or have you got one for the coach and horses
i would be very grateful if you could furnish any one of them for us on the forum
best wishes Astonian,,,,

The Earl Grey's licence was revoked in 1998. M&B then Bass leased it from the Calthorpe Estate. Formerly a Holt's pub, the Cannon Hill Hotel's licence went five years earlier. The case went to appeal but the plug was pulled on the pub. The Coach and Horses was also a Holt's pub before Ansell's. I have done extensive work on this pub which I must dig out.EarlGrey.jpg EarlGrey.jpg CannonHill.jpg
