It's been a supermarket for 2/3 years now. I used to drink in there now and again in the late 70's early 80's !

HI mrspooner
many thanks for informing me about the pub ,as you probaly aware i live i worcestersire now
and have done so for many years, and that paticular pub was my local at one time in the 60.s
used at no 47 victoria rd just along the rd from it and one of my brothers used to live in the barton bank
houses he now lives in great barr, but getting back to the reason why i asked
i havenot been over there for many years and was quite surprized to see it like that ,the other day
and the other two was the white swan on victoria rd and berners street as i lived four doors from that pub
and just around the corner fronm the gun makers arms
i do not think i would like to live around there now thou
many thanks best wishes Astonian;;;;;;

Alan. Pete worked at the back of The Ye Old Oak at a place named BJS Castings owned by a Ben Stansby but he never used the pub but did have a drink in the Gun Makers Arms with his dad and brothers. Bye. Jean.

I pass by there quite often on the way to my sisters in Erdington. I cant believe how they have built all along the side as well. And the church just by it has had scaffolding up and being repaired for it seems like years, what are they doing? it must be costing a fortune. No one would recognise Witton rd now if they used to live around there and went back. I will try and remember to take my camera on Sunday and take some pics, although I might not get Tony to pull up he likes to get through that area as quick as possible.

hI JEAN ,
I REMEMBER THAT PLACE WHERE YOUR PETE WORKED VERY WELL
WE LIVED THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROUNDBOUT, ABOUT 400 YARDS ALONG ON THE VIC RD
I NOTICED THE OTHER DAY WHERE OUR OLD HOUSE USED TO BE THE HOUSES . THAT THEY
PUT THERE LIE BACK ON THE RD IF YOU COUNTED THREE LAMP POSTS ALONG FROM THE BANK ON THE CORNER THAT WAS OUR HOUSE, OR SHOULD I SAY MY MOTHERS HOUSE , AS I WAS SINGLE AND UNMARRIED
IN THOSE DAYS, THE HOUSE EMEDIATELY BEHIND OUR HOUSE WHICH WAS AN ENTRY
THERE WAS A BIG POSH HOUSE WITH POSH PEOPLE WHOM HAD MONEY ,AND THEY HAD SWANKIE CARS ;
HE WAS AN AIR PLANE PILOT AT BIRMINGHAM AIR PORT , NICE PEOPLE THOU
THEY ALWAYS SPOKE TO US
PATTY ; I ENTIRELY AGREE WITH YOUR THOUGHTS, WHAT ON EARTH ARE THEY DOING
IT LOOKS HONDEROUS I HAD TO STOP MYSELF AND LOOK
EVEN MYSELF I THOUGHT I WISH I HAD A CAMERA WITH ME, IT LOOKS DISGUSTING
AND SO ENCLOSED, WHOM IS PAYING FOR IT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW BEST WISHES ASTONIAN ;;;

Hi Astonian
I lived on Whitehead Road not far from the White Swan until '84, it wasn't a nice place to live there then, but now no way.

hi mrspooner
its a small world aint it when you travel around and get to speak to people
and find out where they come ,
and there is one hell of alot of people orinate from aston,when you find out no matter wher you go in the
world but its good to talk ain,t it as the old BT advert used to say ;
but what you say is correct it was not that a good place to live ,but i would imagine judging
by the scenery and the feel of the dirty old place nowi would imagin it aint safe to walk the strreets now
i drove along there a couple of days ago passing the white house street and looking where the old house stood andi felt abit of a cringe come over me ,i turne to my son and pointedand i said what a hell whole
and i put my foot down and over the island to the ye old oak and seen the state of it
spooner, can you recall what the old swan looked like before the so called extention and modernisation
best wishes astonian ;;;

Hi Astonian,
I recall the White Swan being a typical 60's designed pub, very similar to the not too distant but now shut Shareholders Arms by the Bartons Arms. When I was groing up in the 60's dad would go there for a pint and take us with him as we could play footie on the carpark at the rear.
Last time I went past the pub had been knocked down and replaced by what I think was a medical center.
