There is this statement at https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/the-retreat-off-sutton-st.27408/#post-255856, which seems to be where the photo was originally posted, but lost in the hack:I have been unable to find the location for this photo, it doesn't look like The Retreat as I remember it but having said that at various times Wilkinson Street has been included as part of The Retreat and I don't remember Wilkinson Street that well. I can find no reference to Landsdowne Place in or near The Retreat. There are several Landsdowne Places in Birmingham e.g. Long Street (Sparkbrook), New Street (Aston), Peel Street (Winson Green) and in Lawley. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Ste and welcome to the forum. Would that have been The Retreat Garage ?Around 1964/5 I bought my first car an Austin 7 from a used car dealer in the Retreat for £22.
I think so. I have a memory of a stocky chap, dark crewcut hair who did the deal.Hi Ste and welcome to the forum. Would that have been The Retreat Garage ?

I’d like to know where you think this is it’s my Great-grandfather and his sonPost number 90, is not The Retreat in Aston, this has been on here before and the location was found but I am sorry I cannot remember where it was ....
He was a metal dealer based in Phillips Street AstonSorry post 100, is not the Retreat in Aston, this has been discussed before and it was found to be in another area maybe Small Heath I don't know for certain.
Like I have already said, I don't know where the location is on that photograph, but I can tell you it's not the Retreat in Aston that ran from Sutton Street to Wilkinson Street, and if you bothered to read through all the replies you will notice that all those members who lived in and around that area have agreed with me, The Retreat was a minute or two walk from where I was born and raised and was one of my playgrounds during my childhood.I’d like to know where you think this is it’s my Great-grandfather and his son
A few more from census searches:The name on the proerty is Lansdowne Place.
There were several areas called Lansdowne Place
