The Pearsall Family

Echobeach

Brummie babby
I am very early in starting a project to research my family . As a 60 year old with few family members left this is a daunting task and it does not help that i discover my Grandmother named Marie and died in 1963 was really called Marion Lillian Pearsall and was born in 1900 in Aston to a family that run J W Pearsall Butchers and had business operations across Birmingham including the original pre WW2 BullRing .

Quite scandalous that Marion Lillian Pearsall had three children out of wedlock , my father Roger Hazell and his brothers John and Lawrence and only wed their father, John Henry Arthur Hazell ( 1901 - 1961 ) later in March 1931 . Marion had a sister born in Aston in 1902 Ethel S Pearsall who married Wallace Ogle in 1919 who unfortunately died in 1939 . Ethel moved to Cheshire before settling in Rhyl where she died aged 81 in 1983 .

So far this is all i have learnt but only started yesterday ! I have searched these forums and there is reference to many Pearsalls but no mention of Marion or Ethel . This should be an interesting journey .

Any knowledge appreciated , its all a very long time ago but you may have delved into the Pearsall family tree .

Thanks
Phillip Hazell

So it seems Marion Lillian Pearsall's father was Joseph William Pearsall - Mother Ada White 1868-1945 and brother Hubert Willis Pearsall shown here on the right outside the family business . At his marriage in 1925 he is listed as resident at 153 Hight Street King's Heath and married Jessie Lavinia Taylor . His death is registered in 1946 .

No sign of ethel on the 1911 census, only Joseph, Ada Herbert & Marion, plus a cousin. There is a birth registration for an Ethel in Aston in December 1900, not her as mother's maiden name is Edwards. I found the marriage reg for Ethel and Wallace. In 1939 Wallace was living at 18 Algernon Rd. Birmingham with children Susannah, Wallace Junior, Ethel and Margaret. Although Wallace states he is married, his wife Ethel is not showing with him at this address. I cannot find her on the 1939 register.

I have found a death registration for Ethel Ogle, age 39 in March 1930. Birmingham. I wonder if the Ethel mentioned is the daughter not the wife. Although there is another reg in Aberconwy in 1983 showing a birth date of 25 Jan 1902.

Some confusion with. Ethel. The Ethel that married Wallace Ogle was an Ethel Serrena Pearsall b1890 Aston, d1930 Bham.

The Ethel who died in Wales in 1983 was an Ethel (nee Cooper) the wife of a Clifford Ogle.

Also Marion's mother was Ada Willis not Ada White, hence Hubert's middle name.

And I don't think the Ethel that married Wallace Ogle was Marion's sister, she appears to be the daughter of a George and Frances Pearsall.

Your Grandmother appears on the 1921 census as Marie Pearsall still at 153 High Street Kings Heath with her brother and Parents. She Married an Arthur Hill in 1922 but have not found out yet what became of him. When she married your Grandfather in 1931 her name appeared as Lilian M Hill - no idea why. Also Agree with MWS. Joseph and Ada were her parents and she had a brother Hubert Willis Pearson. In 1901 they lived on Poplar Road and it appears Marion (Marie) was recently born as her age is recorded as "0".

Ethel definitely died in Rhyl in 1983 so i have to look again at the relationship - not been able to locate her - much thanks

Very interested in this as i knew my father and his brothers were born before Marion Lillian known as Marie married Mr Hazell , with John T Hazell being born in 1927 and Lawrence in 1929 and my father Roger Edmund Hazell in January 1931 . Seems like Marion Lillian ( Marie ) was having an affair ! I will search for Arthur Hill

I saw that reference and couldn't figure out the cousin's name but they were 35 years old

Marion married an Arthur Hill, reg. Jun qtr 1922 Aston. When she married John Hazell, she is listed as both Hill and Pearsall, which may imply that she was divorced.

The Wallace Ogle at 18 Algernn Road is with wife Susannah (he was born 1865 and she was born 1864) they married in 1887.
Their son Wallace junior is living with them he is listed as "W" so presumaby widowed.
The Ethel Ogle listed is the daughter of Wallace (jnr) and has mmn Pearsall so I assume that was Ethel. Therefore that Ethel must have died before 1939 and so that Ethel is not the one who died in 1983 but it could have been the daughter. Except her dob is 2 Dec and an Ethel Ogle b that date died in 1996 in Manchester.
Margaret Ogle born 1892 is Wallace (snr) and Susannah's daughter.

This is not so bad - My maternal Grandmother had 6 husbands , one bigamous and lived in hiding in Newcastle during WW2 under a pseudonym , a false identity for 5 years ......

With my nan i was told as a teenager and was able to dig out and confirm the details . However my father never mentioned his family it was kept very quiet
