the medals are now out of the draw

gingerjon

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN R.I.P.
Medals.
This man of the war did his best
For a few medals on his chest
On his return from the conflict of war
He took the medals of and put them in the draw
From this day on no more was ever said
Nor of his mates who now were dead
Back to his old job driving a tram
Trying to get back to being a family man
But things ain't what they really seem
Every night turning in to a bad dream
How long will it take to forget this dam war
Forever those images of horror that he had saw
The truth was he had returned in a shell of his old self
Now forever to be suffering with ill health
This man who had gone to war when I was a lad
I can tell you now that this man was my dad
Today I took those medals out of the draw
Just a packet of tears that he had fought for

 What more can one say John... there were so many of them and it's still going on today. Young men who are of no age at all sent to fight and survive the best they can and in the most part by other men who've lived their lives to the full.

Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. ???

Chris

Unlike our politicians John..I always knew who our heroes were..people like your Dad...well done...something to reflect on.

Excellent words John. I could so associate them with my own Dad.

This is another poem i will show my Mom. If you recall, she obtained her 22yr old brothers medals (died in Jarva) only a few years ago after a lifetime of not being able to speak of him, and no body to morn.

Lovely poem

Hello John - I was right this poem is one of your best - one feels the emotion - sees the images - hears music in the words. - Why my friend do you think this particular poem will be on my new website???

John, Just in the process of framing someones medal that were dumped, if the family did not want them why me ? well as long as I have them he will be remembered.
How many people keep the medals tucked away in an old tin box and they never see the light of day ?
I could understand if it was immediate family but not a couple of generations down the line
Nice poem
