THE LORD Clifton

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
HI GUYS ,
Does Anybody Know Of Or Knows Wether The Lord Clifton
On Constution Hill Is Still Around As My Mother Used To Go ThereAlot Of Times With Her Parents And Is It Possible If Any-body As Got Axcess To Kellys Directory For Around The 1928-30, And Could Tell Me Whom The Name
Of The Licencee,s Name Was , Please , Would Be Grateful If This Part Could Be Checked If Not But Would Like To Know Whether This Pub Is Still Trading
Once Again Many Thanks And Seaons Greeting To You All ASTONIAN ,;;

Yes it's it still going well. I think there is a thread on here somewhere.
My cousin Gary ran it a couple of years ago.

For some reason the 1932 and 1933 Kelly's don't seem to list the name of the pub, referring to it just as beer retailer, but the landlord is given for those years as Bertram Cyril Kearsey ( as it was in 1940 when the name at no 34 is listed)
Mike

Having undergone something of resurgence in popularity, it's now known as one of the best pubs in Birmingham.

Not my cup of tea, to be honest, but at least it's thriving which is more than you can say for most pubs.

Having had a few drinks and lunches in the Clifton,
it was, I think No 34 Gt. Hampton Street, Hockley.
As you came up from Constitution Hill, it was on the right hand side,
before the flyover!

heres a pic of the lord clifton taken in 1961...sorry about the poor quality....

astoness:)

Saw this pub mentioned recently by I think the 'Times' website as one of the best in England. Not a bad acolade,I'll pop in myself next time I'm around.
Think it's probally benefitted from a lot of the newer apartments built closer to the city centre.Few years ago the area had very few people living locally, and most of the pubs struggled as a result.

Just seen the place on Google Streetview, annoyingly they were having a beer delivery, and it obscures most of the frontage.
