I thought this bar was amazing at the Live and Let Live at Neen Sollars Worcestershire

When we were kids, we used to go to The Live and Let Live, but I think it must have been a different one. This one was at Sinton Green, not too far away from Worcester. At that time, about 50 years ago now, it was run by a 'brummie' and the friends he left behind used to arrange coach trips to spend a day there. Also Dad and Mom used to take us on the Midland Red bus to Hallow and we would walk there. Haven't got the energy to walk that far anymore!! It brings back so many memories even if it isn't the same pub!!

PS The suns out this morning

live and let live pub

theres only one pub in worc called the live aND LET LIVE
and thats in cutnall green worc ,
two miles from hartlebury and thats where i live
unless theres another partof the country there is one ? .
where the pub is there are three of them ina line of about 100 yrds apart from wach other on the same stretch of road
the new inns , the let live , and the chequers pub

I have no idea about the names. We went to this pub on Sunday for lunch. My brother and sister in law used to visit this pub in the early 60's when they went camping in Neen Solars. It was a memory lane visit.

We go almost every week to the Live and Let Live at Cutnall Green. The New Inn has now closed and is boarded up and The Chequers is a very upmarket 'gastro pub' (the chef cooks for the England Rugby Team). There was also a pub of the same name in Wolverley, that closed a couple of years ago and is now a private residence.
The Live and Let Live at Neen Solars is a beautiful pub, but opening hours are now restricted (I think) to weekends, very few people live in Neen Sollars! (It's near Mamble and on the way to Tenbury Wells). You might want to try The Sun and Slipper in Mamble, Wendy, next time, another nice pub for Sunday lunch. The Neen Sollars 'Live and Let Live' had a large oak chest in the hallway that was as intricately carved as the bar. A lovely interior!

Well Astonian you got me thinking, so I put Live and Let Live, Neen Sollars into my search engine. The name came up fot the cottage next door to the pub which can be rented for holidays. The pub is mentioned but only as the local pub so why would you call a cottage the same name as the pub.............very strange or is it owned by the people who own the pub. It is owned privatly and not by a brewery.

Hi Cynthia, sorry I must have written my last post as you did. I am glad you have cleared that one up I thought I was going mad!........don't comment! Yes the pub was lovely if you like old pubs the food was good to. We ate in "the cocktail bar"........brilliant! there were lots of wooden carvings around we were told they came from an old mansion that was demolished many moons ago. Thanks for the tips on the other pubs we will give them a try.

The carvings look like they came from the Art Neuveau (spelling may be incorrect) period to me and I was about to say in your picture that the woodwork did not look like it started off in life as a bar. Then I read that the work came from an old house. Nice post.

Rupert, the pub was full of wood carvings. I wasn't going to post this one as my brother will probably kill me. It's a biblical scene so intricate. Oh well if i am not here next week you'll know why!

I have looked at the photos I have of the Woodman and I cannot match your photo of the bar to any of them, but nobody can say how much they were altered and change to fit new surroundings. Would you like me to post some photos for comparison?

Phil

Phil that would be great there were so many old fittings in various rooms in this pub which have been there since the 60's. The reason I know this is my brother and his wife used to go camping nearby in the 60's and this was the pub they used. It's so sad when records are not kept. The Woodman was an amazing pub I wonder what happened to the sculpture of the Woodman from the front of the pub.

Wendy

I'm sure most of these are scattered around somewhere on the forum, but starting with the exterior and entrance of The Woodman I have these.

Great photo's Phil thank you for posting them. As you say hard to match anything but very interesting all the same. I expect the fixtures and fittings from the Woodman went all over the place but it would be nice to locate something from such a grand public house.

thinking back I remember those great midland pubs with there ornate victorian interiors and never paid much notice when young but really admire today, those that are left so many destroyed in the birmingham area.

Wendy, I don't remember reading this post before, but the mention of Neen Sollars brought back some happy memories for me, in 1946 or 1947 our family spent a holiday on Woolleys Farm in Neen Sollars, there were still Italian p.o.w's working on the farm, and the two daughters of the farmer, Ruby and Pearl taught me how to ride a two wheeled bike, after a few attempts and going into a bed of nettles. I am sure mom & dad would have had a drink in the Live and Let Live.

I am glad it bought back some happy memories Sylvia. Thanks for sharing them with us. I wonder if it was the same farm my brother, sister in law and their friends camped at.

Just as an update: The Live and Let Live in Cutnall Green has been closed for some time now and they've built houses on the car park and converted the pub to (it looks like) cottages.
#Sob# another lovely little country pub gone.

Not too sure if this is the best place to post this ....... but one of the Woodman tiled paintings ended here: https://www.bmagic.org.uk/objects/1988F1542

Bought in 1986 by BMAG. Well at least we can account for one of the paintings and it's survived in tact.

Maybe we could have a new thread for any info in tracking down these lost pub fittings. Viv.

and here on the left is the one bought by the BMAG viv..insitu in the woodman...pity they couldnt have left it there along with the pub:redface: what a loss that was...

I think a new thread to try and locate items from the Woodman Public House would be great. The tiles are lovely thank you for the info Lyn and Phil.

Great stuff Lynn. It's so good to see them in their original context.

Wendy, I'll start a new thread. Didn't want to start one if you thought it wouldn't serve any purpose but I think it's worth doing as it might jog a few memories. :)

Phil, I don't want to step on any toes in starting a new thread to try and track down the Woodman fittings. I'll start it off but I think it's best if I leave it to you to decide which of your photos you'd like to post (well that is if you want to of course!). Hope that's OK. Viv.

Hi Viv

You won't be treading on my toes, as this is Wendy's thread. You will have to post a link to this thread so people can see the carved fittings, as I can't really post them again to another thread. I can however post photos of the tiles because I have images of most of them.

Phil

OK Phil. I'm happy to put the links of the carverpd fittings on to the Woodman thread. Yes I think it would be a good idea to have your photos of the tiles on the thread if they're readily accessible from your files. Many thanks. Viv.

Another difficult thread to reinstate, I've added a couple of photo to ensure that I have covered all of the original images.
