I have no memory of a King Edward PH on Stratford Rd, where was it situated? The only other pubs at that time I can remember being used by the Irish community was The Bear, The Antelope & The Angel. Although in the 50's & 60's there was a very strong Irish community in the area, so they used most of the pubs.

Are you sure you have the name right.

Right now we have got that sorted out. I have got a photo, but its only after the pub had closed down and later attacked by arsonists (as usual) . I had occasionally used this pub when it was my uncles local. I much preferred the Hereford and the Talbot myself.

hi phil
many thanks for that i think it was about four doors away there was an hostel
for the down and outs and the ocholics it was there dinning rooms and kitchen
there accomodation was on the other side of the rd about ten yards from the post office super market and they used to be a bench on the corner next to smiths coaches but saying that it could have been the tatters stripping it out
its a pity i could not get the full monty of a picture but thanks again mate
best wishes astonian ;;;

I was gobsmacked when passing The Vic the other day. I see it hasn't been demolished but its been renovated and converted into a police station (I'll get a photo the next time I am down that way). I can't think of a better use for it. As one was certainly needed in the area.
