The Globe Pub Hospital St

hi folks..could i have a look up please to see how man globe pubs there were in birmingham before the 2nd world war and also after it....

i know of only 2 pre war.the one in blews st newtown and the one on the corner of hospital st and william st north newtown...

the globe in blews st is the only one i know of after the war as i beleive the other one was bombed out..

hi chris...thanks for that...i have been given a coaster with a pic of a globe pub on it...no location..i am searching for the one in hospital st as that is where dad was born..i wonder does that one specify if it was an ansells house....

ok chris..thanks..ive got a feeling that if camden st was on the corner of ickneild st that the pic i have is of this pub...think i can see that tall chimney in the distance that is by the mint...

lol chris..now that is the most overstated thing i have heard i wish i had a tiny bit of carls knoweledge its only because i have done a bit of research on the hospital st globe that i knew it had been bombed..ive posted this before but in case you missed it this is where our dad was born...but all his life he assumed that it was the globe in blews/manchester st where he was born and that pub is still up and running...as a youngster he was told by his mom and dad that he was born in the globe newtown...so only ever seeing the one in blews st as the other one got bombed out when he was about 10 years old he naturally thought it
was the blews st one...with his age now and his heath problems i dont have the heart to tell him he was wrong....

i shall keep searching for a pic of it though...

oops chris...just realised camden st is not where i first thought it was so i dont think its that one now....

i think i will scan the pic i have and maybe someone will know which globe it is...

This is my Great great Uncle Samuel Taylor pictured aged 16 in 1889. He died in the Globe Pub in Hospital Street on December 4th 1940 after it was bombed. He was found with his pint handle in one hand and his change in the other. Hope he managed to take a sip!

hello mandy and welcome to the forum...thank you so much for posting that lovely photo of your gt uncle as a young man...as you say he died at the globe inn at 61 hospital st in 1940 along with the manager of the pub...so sad...my family ran the globe prior to the war and our dad was born there in 1929..i only have this sketchy photo of the globe after it had been bombed and a little bit of info about it from a book..also i am posting you the link to the BARRA site which lists all injuries and deaths during ww2 just in case you have not seen it.. just tick location of death and then type in hospital st...your gt uncles name is there..thanks for adding a bit more history to this pub oh and we do have quite a long thread on hospital st just type it in the search box at the top right of the main page...hope you enjoy the forum..i have also moved this thread to the pubs section of the forum..
